CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TALENTED STUDENTS!

Seven of our Art students were recognized at the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Fair last week. Juniors, Anne Callahan, Morgan McKenna, Tianna Szeto and senior Kim Huntress received Honorable Mention in Painting. Senior Cindy Truong received an Honorable Mention in Sculpture as well as Silver Key for Creative Writing. Yuze Wu received a Silver Key in Painting and juniors, Jana Griffis and Katie Sorgman received Gold Keys in Painting.

JeJennifer Gemma’s family and teammates presented her with a commemorative ball and other gifts at the game to celebrate her amazing achievement, shooting her 1,000th point this season.  Jen joins four other Fontbonne basketball players who have also reached this milestone: Cara Egan ’92, Lauren Myers ’97, Sarah Bratton ’03, and Alexis Peters ’10.  The Varsity Basketball team, above, from left to right:  Rebecca Simmons ’13, Georgia Bourikas ’13, Tori Bourikas ’15, Jen Gemma ’13, Callie Cabral ’13, Kathryn Meschino ’15, Meaghan Gemma ’15, Shayley Monahan ’16, Kayla Odegaard ’14, Colleen Tuite ’16 and Rebecca Olivieri ’14.

Fontbonne boasts four students who were recognized in the National Merit Scholarship Competition!  From left to right:  Semifinalist Julia Butts, and Commended Students Jessica Baker, Maretta Morovitz, and Caroline Cabral.

Of the top 50,000 of more than 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test  (PSAT) in October 2011 and entered the National Merit Scholarship Program, 34,000 are recognized as Commended Students (the other 16,000, or approximately 1%, are named Semi-finalists). Fontbonne Academy Senior Julia Butts has been named a Semi-finalist and will have the opportunity to continue in the competition. It is an honor for any school to have a Commended Student, as they are chosen from a very competitive field; it is extraordinary that Fontbonne Academy has three Commended Students and one Semi-finalist.
