CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TALENTED STUDENTS!

2014 National Merit Scholars

More than 40 members of the junior and sophomore classes came together on Thursday, February 27, 2014 for the inaugural Leadership Breakfast.  This event was conceptualized and hosted by the officers of the National Honor Society. It served as a "kickoff" for a leadership/mentoring program between the students of different classes. Tamra Adams '14 and Madison Devine '14 spoke about leadership in the classroom and in extracurricular activities, given their different perspectives as an actor and an athlete. The event concluded with a presentation of certificates by the officers of the National Honor Society to the students being recognized as the leaders of the future.

Rebecca Olivieri, a member of the Class of 2014 and a resident of Milton, MA, has announced her intention to play basketball at Division III Wheaton College, located in Norton, MA.  Wheaton is a Division III program that plays in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

At Fontbonne, Rebecca was a four year starter on the basketball team which was 51 – 36 during her career.  She scored 380 points during her career, was the 2012 MBCA State Foul Shooting Champion and was a 2013 Catholic Conference All-Star.  Rebecca played in the state tournament three times.

Fontbonne boasts four students who were recognized in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Competition!  From left to right: Finalist Katherine Comber, and Commended Students Elizabeth Magnuson, Abigail Plouffe, and Sylvie Grenier.

This is the second year in a row that Fontbonne Academy has a finalist and three commended students.  Of the top 50,000 of more than 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test  (PSAT) in October 2012 and entered the National Merit Scholarship Program, 34,000 are recognized as Commended Students (the other 16,000, or approximately 1%, are named Semi-finalists). It is an honor for any school to have a Commended Student, as they are chosen from a very competitive field; it is extraordinary that Fontbonne Academy has three Commended Students and one Semi-finalist.
